The Managed Forest Tax Incentive Program (MFTIP) is a voluntary program that offers a property tax reduction on well-managed forest land in Ontario. It is an incentive to support you in the stewardship of your forest!
To apply you need a management plan for your forest. This is a key tool in caring for your land and helps ensure good forestry practices and stewardship principles will be followed on your property.
Qualifying forest areas will be classified as a managed forest and taxed at 25% the base residential rate.
MFTIP is an Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) program.
What Are The Benefits Of Joining MFTIP?
Properties which are accepted into MFTIP are taxed at one-quarter the residential tax rate as determined by MPACC. Managed Forest Plan also creates a greater understanding of your property. Many landowners take pride in establishing measurable goals for their property and working to maintain the health of their woodlot.
Is My Property Eligible For MFTIP?
The forest must cover at least four hectares (9.88 acres) excluding residences; at least one acre is deducted for residences or groups of buildings.
Muskoka land Stewards prepares the plans required for a MFTIP and is there to help along the way to implement your plan. Give us a call to learn more about this great way to save on your Municipal taxes and be actively involved in your property.
